THE WORD SANDBOX: PLAYTIME FOR THE POET WITHIN #POET

Elisa Abatsis

In this fun, lighthearted workshop, we'll try our hands at writing poetry in a supportive and pressure-free environment. We'll take our inspiration from weekly readings of contemporary and classic poets, and then work on in-class writing exercises to get our creative juices flowing. We'll experiment with different forms and subjects. This workshop will possibly culminate in an informal "open-mike" night on the last week of the session, depending on the interest level of the participants. Students should bring a notebook and a writing implement to the first class. Beginners are more than welcome! Elisa Abatsis is a recently transplanted New York City-based playwright and poet. Her plays have received productions at the famed Flea Theatre in SoHo and the Midtown International Theatre Festival, among other venues. She has studied creative writing at The New School, The Writer's Studio, and HB Studios. Limit 8.
