YOUTH BASKETBALL PROGRAM & CLINIC SCHEDULE

 

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: This recreational league is open to boys and girls grades 3 and up. Boys who are on Travel or School teams will not be able to participate. Girls who play on school teams are also NOT eligible to play in the Community Education league. Parents can register and will receive 90% refunds if their children later make these more competitive teams. Withdrawals should be made as soon as this information is known. All participants will have an equal opportunity to play and will be placed on teams to achieve balanced competition.

 

WHEN: Games will be played on Saturday mornings and afternoons. Weekday practices will be scheduled one day a week based on gym availability. All participants are required to attend the opening clinic on Saturday, November 14 at the times and locations listed below. Children will be given skill instruction evaluated for later team selection. Participants should wear appropriate clothing and sneakers. Basketballs will be provided.

League Dates: November 14 -March 13

Games begin December 5.

Fee: $100 per child

 

COACHES: In order for the league to run smoothly, VOLUNTEERS are NEEDED to serve as league directors and team coaches. PLEASE NOTE: Children (limit 2) of coaches and directors may participate at half price. Final selection of coaches will be at the discretion of the league director and Commissioner. If you are interested in serving as a league director or coach, please contact Nicole Zartarian at Community Education. There may be openings for new, paid REFEREES and TIMERS. If you are 7th grade and up and would like to referee, please see page 15.

 

STUDENT COACHES: High School students in 11th or 12th grade are eligible to coach with parent supervision. Anyone interested should contact Nicole Zartarian at the Community Education office (978) 266-2525 to set up an interview.

 

REGISTRATION PROCESS: League selection will be based upon a lottery system. Please fill out the form on page 17 of the Interaction catalog and return it either in person or by mail to the Community Education Office. We will be accepting forms from August 24th until 3:00 p.m. on September 18th. The lottery will take place September 21st and participants will be notified whether or not they are in the program via email no later than September 25. PLEASE NOTE: registration forms received after September 18th will NOT be in the lottery and those players will be added to the program, in the order they were received, on a space-available basis.

 

REFUND POLICY: To get a 90% refund, players must withdraw from the league no later than November 4, 2009. Community Education will not provide refunds after that date unless a student makes a school basketball team.
