COOPERATIVE PHYSICAL PLAY FOR

CHILDREN ON THE AUTISTIC

SPECTRUM #CPLAY

(Grades 4-6)

Amanda Clemons, LCSW

This course will employ cooperative, non-competitive physical activity as a means of helping children on the autistic spectrum enhance self-image and social skills. In a low-stress, fun-filled environment children will learn to focus on and utilize their assets to make successful connections with their peers. Direct feedback pertaining to social behavior will be provided to each participant. Activities utilize a strong fantasy component and are structured so that one child's success is never dependent on another's failure. Amanda Clemons, LCSW, is an Activity Group Therapist at Academy MetroWest, a children's group therapy service located in Natick, MA. Since 1994, Academy MetroWest has utilized cooperative, non-competitive physical activity as a means of helping children enhance self-esteem and social skills. Academy MetroWest runs therapeutic groups for children ages 6-15 with a wide range of presenting problems, including Asperger's Disorder, Non-verbal Learning Disorder, ADHD, and others. If interested, please call Amanda Clemons at 508-655-9200 prior to registration to discuss potential placement for your child. Limit 6.
