Boxborough students will take place at the Community Education
Office, 15 Charter Road, on
Thursday, September
January 5th at 7:30 a.m.
Phone and mail-in registration will take
place on January 6th on a space available basis.
Please note: RMV Law states that
parents MUST attend a mandatory meeting to discuss requirements of
both student and parents. You will have
a choice of two meeting times: Tuesday, January 17th or Wednesday,
January 18th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in HS#184W.
The State of Massachusetts requires that
students attend all class sessions. In the event of a missed class,
the class missed must be made up (so, if you miss Class #5, you must
make up Class #5). If a student misses more than two classes,
Community Education will charge a $100 fee.
After registering for Driver Education,
parents/students will have 24 hours to withdraw from the class and
receive a 100% refund. A 90% refund will be given if withdrawal is
done two full business days prior to the start of class. Please call
with any questions.
Note to Parents:
At A-B Community Education, our goal is to
create safe, confident drivers equipped with skills to last a
lifetime.
We are committed to our mission of
producing safe drivers, but we can't do it alone. Parent
involvement and support is not only vital to the creation of good
drivers, it is required by law. The Commonwealth of
Massachusetts requires 40 hours of parent supervised driving as part
of the licensing process. A parent/guardian is required to attest to
the parent supervised hours when a student applies for a license
test.
Like any skill, practice is required
between lessons. We recommend each student drive with a parent for a
minimum of 2 hours each week. This will enable the driver and parent
to complete the 40 hour parent requirement within the 6 month state
required time.
In our program we hope that students will
have some road experience with a parent/guardian before they attend
their first driving lesson in the car with one of our instructors.
Ideally, students will have driven for 2 hours on the road or for 6
hours in a parking lot.
Please note: Because practice is necessary
to produce a skilled, confident driver, we do not schedule drivings
closer than every third day. This way new drivers have time to
practice between sessions with our instructors and reinforce the
skills they are learning during each instructor-led session. Also, we
strongly recommend that the final instructed drive be as close to the
end of the 6 month waiting period as possible so the teacher's
instructions are still fresh in the student's mind when they take
their driving test with the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Also, we want to highlight our policy
which requires students to have a partner when signing up for driving
times. This policy is designed to ensure the safety of students and
driving instructors. If you have any questions or would like more
information regarding this policy, please call Rich Dushanek at
978-266-2525.
