INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED CHESS FOR KIDS #KCHESS2
(Grades 2-7)
Lou Mercuri
This class is a logical follow up to the "Chess for Kids" class offered in the winter and spring sessions. Join this class for a chance to learn and play against a national chess master! We'll go beyond the basics and cover tactics, strategy and powerful opening moves to be competitive at any level. We'll cover classic games, fantastic finishes, and checkmating patterns. The emphasis is on playing opportunities that will help every student see improvement in their game. The kids will be grouped by age and ability to keep everyone interested and motivated. There is no prerequisite for this class, but kids will likely have participated in chess clubs or tournaments.
Lou Mercuri is a U.S. Life Chess Master who has recently coached three Mass. State Scholastic Chess Champions and teams that have won state and national awards. Mr. Mercuri defeated World Champion Karpov in an exhibition match in 1990 and in 2006 was awarded the International Chess Trainer Title.
