A-B Community Ed. oversees registration for the A-B Town Swim Team, a local team for school-aged children who wish to try competitive swim racing. All swimmers are evaluated and, if their skill level is appropriate, placed either on the GOLD team (more advanced swimmers) or the BLUE team (beginners). The A-B Town Swim Team is based at the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School pool. Practices are held from 6:00-7:00 Monday through Friday evenings. The GOLD team practices on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the BLUE team practices on Tuesday and Thursday. Meets are held with teams from Newton, Wellesley, Sudbury, Natick, Framingham, Weston, Wayland and Tri-Valley.
Participants MUST attend a try-out from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on the following schedule:
Monday, October 24 - Ages 10 and under
Tuesday, October 25 - Ages 11 and over
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: OCTOBER 21.
At the tryout, the coaches will decide whether a child's swimming ability qualifies him/her for the team. Registration fees will not be charged until after the tryout when the team roster is finalized. Regular practices begin on Wednesday, November 2nd.
Please Note: There are only a limited number of spots for non-residents on the swim team. The number of non-resident spots is determined by the number of Acton & Boxborough residents making the swim team.
The A-B Town Swim Team requires parent involvement. Among other duties, parents are needed to serve as timers, stroke and turn judges, starters, scorers, snack bar managers, timing system operator, place judge, locker room monitor, publicity, ribbon writers, etc. For a full list of positions, parents should carefully review the Town Team Handbook, found at www.abswimming.org. Please note: Parents who are willing to take on more than the minimum number of volunteer commitments expected of each family in the program may receive reduced registration fees for their children.
